Storhamar Hockey, also called Storhamar Ishockey or simply SIL, is a professional ice hockey team from Hamar, Norway. They compete in the EliteHockey Ligaen, the top tier of Norwegian hockey. Founded on 18 March 1957, the club has claimed eight regular season titles and seven national championships. Their home arena is CC Amfi, and they operate the largest junior program in Norwegian ice hockey. The team’s colors are yellow and blue.
The 1952 Winter Olympics sparked interest among local youth in Hamar, leading to the formation of a hockey club. An ice rink was built in 1955, and two years later, Storhamar was officially accepted into the Norwegian Ice Hockey Association. The club has won the Norwegian Championship playoffs seven times: in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2018.
The franchise’s most notable player is Erik Kristiansen, who played 20 seasons, scoring 509 goals and 406 assists in 649 games. Internationally, the best-known Storhamar player is Patrick Thoresen. On March 12, 2017, during the 2016–17 season, Storhamar was part of the longest professional hockey game ever recorded, lasting 217 minutes and 14 seconds. They defeated the Sparta Warriors 2-1 in the 11th period (eight overtimes), with Joakim Jensen scoring the winning goal.
