Manglerud Star Ishockey, often shortened to Manglerud Star or just MS, is an ice hockey club from Oslo, Norway. The team competes in the 2. divisjon, having taken the place of Rosenborg IHK after that club went bankrupt in the summer of 2014. Established in 1967, Manglerud Star reached the top division in 1973 and captured its only two national championships in 1977 and 1978. The club is still recognized for having one of the best youth programs in Norwegian hockey. Home games are played at Manglerudhallen.
The parent multi-sport club, SK Star, was founded on 23 June 1913 at Akershus Festning in Oslo. In 1964, it merged with Manglerud IL to form Manglerud Star IL, and the ice hockey division started three years later. The club’s only titles came in the late 1970s. The 1990s were unstable, with failed merger attempts involving other Oslo clubs, most notably Furuset to create the Spektrum Flyers. Financial troubles led to relegation from the top flight in the 2004/05 season. After four years in the second tier, Manglerud returned to the GET-ligaen for the 2009/10 season, was relegated again after 2011/12, but regained a top-flight spot in the summer of 2014 when Rosenborg IHK lost its license.
